Business Flyer

My business flyer is meant to attract your attention towards my flyer for the upcoming event. I tried to use several elements and principles generally accepted in graphic design. The event I am promoting is a special, mind you fictional, one time concert featuring Charleston’s own Darius Rucker with the Charleston Jazz Orchestra performing as his band. Now this concert would attract a lot of attention and someone with a lot more experience than me to design the flyer to promote it effectively. However having given my best shot I was able to design what I feel is a pretty impressive poster. The line “Above the Clouds” alludes to this one time concert. I used unity and contrasting particularly in this project. I think the focus on using contrasting colors in the flyer design clearly comes through. I also used several images to create other images by blending, implementing text and transforming. I feel that all these element create a unity through the positive use of space.

CD Cover

When designing a CD cover I chose to name the band after a former nickname of myself. I also took into consideration what I look for when I see a CD. You want something that jumps out at you and makes you notice it. Whether that be some sexual implications, psychedelic artwork, or what looks to be a cutout from a child's coloring book sitting in the Hip-Hop section of your local CD store. The unity and coloring came mostly through matching colors and just creating a simple image and simple message through the cover. Space is used on this CD cover effectively with no real waste of it and it does not feel overcrowded either.

Postcard

For this event I actually used this as an opportunity to design something for a project in another class using the technology for CSCI 114. The general idea is that we are promoting a major outdoor concert in Charleston with benefits going to area schools music programs. The timing just happened to work. Although I think in parts it feels like it might be a little cluttered there is a lot of information that must be conveyed through the poster alone. The colors flow especially well with the general idea that it is a music festival. With this one I used a lot of shape creation tools and spent a lot of time choosing the right font type and color to go through the poster. The images on the side of the moon man were borrowed from Long Miles' website, because two of the members are in my class.

Logo

My logo was designed to be very appetizing to the general person particularly a beer drinker. As a brewing company the number one person you want to knmow about your company is a beer drinker. In this logo I used simple blending with the two pictures and simple contrasting color to help the whole thing pop. The space was used very effectively with negative space just showing beer. This logo is simple, the whole idea of logos, very simple to duplicate and can have varying sizes from the smallest to the biggest.
